What We Learned from Breaking Down One of Discord's Most Engaged Communities

Highlights from our latest CommunityOne livestream featuring Femboy Order and how they use Discord Server Tags to grow.

One of my favorite parts of hosting our CommunityOne livestreams is getting to dig into communities that are doing something genuinely different.

This time, Bruno and I took a closer look at Femboy Order, a Discord community with more than 32,000 members that consistently ranks in the top 1% for engagement based on the communities we've analyzed.

Those two numbers rarely go together.

It's common to see servers grow quickly, but maintaining strong engagement as a community scales is much harder. That's what made Femboy Order such an interesting example to discuss.

Rather than trying to guess why they're successful, we walked through what they're doing, why it works, and what other server owners can learn from it.

Watch the Livestream Recap

Watch Bruno and Louisa break down how Femboy Order uses Discord Server Tags, companion servers, and smart community structure to grow while keeping engagement high.

If you missed it, Bruno and I covered:

  • Why Femboy Order stands out from most Discord communities
  • How Discord Server Tags can improve discovery
  • Their multi-server strategy
  • Practical ideas you can apply to your own server

Community design decisions that encourage long-term engagement

The Feature I Think More Server Owners Should Be Using

One topic we kept coming back to was Discord Server Tags.

They're easy to overlook because setting them up only takes a few minutes, but they're one of the simplest ways to help the right people discover your community.

The important part isn't choosing the most popular tags. It's choosing tags that accurately describe who your community is for.

One thing I really liked about Femboy Order is how intentional they are with this. Their tags aren't trying to appeal to everyone. They're designed to attract people who genuinely belong in the community, and I think that's a big reason why the members who join are much more likely to stay engaged.

Growth Is Only Half the Story

One point Bruno made during the livestream really stood out to me. Discovery helps people find your server, your community experience is what convinces them to stay.

We talked about everything from channel organization and onboarding to creating different ways for members to participate, whether they're ready to jump into conversations immediately or prefer to observe first.

It's a good reminder that sustainable growth isn't just about bringing more people through the door. It's about making sure they feel like they belong once they arrive.

Their Multi-Server Approach Was Also Interesting

Another topic we explored was Femboy Order's network of companion servers.

Instead of trying to fit every audience into one Discord server, they use multiple communities that each have their own purpose while supporting the larger ecosystem.

That also gives them more opportunities to appear in Discord's discovery system through different Server Tags without losing the identity of their main community.

It's not a strategy that every server needs, but it was fascinating to see how they've approached it.

My Biggest Takeaways

If I had to narrow the livestream down to a few practical lessons, they'd be these:

  • Review your Discord Server Tags and make sure they describe your community honestly.
  • Think about your server from the perspective of someone joining for the first time.
  • Focus on attracting the right members instead of simply attracting more members.
  • Build systems that help your community stay healthy as it grows.

None of these ideas are particularly complicated, but together they can have a significant impact over time.

There's a lot more we discussed than I could fit into this post, including examples from Femboy Order's setup and a deeper conversation around Discord discovery.
